  Mangala Karunaratne

  Director

  Over the last 20+ years, Mangala Karunaratne has served as the founder and CEO of Calcey, a boutique professional services firm which specializes in developing bespoke software products for global clients. Under Mangala’s stewardship, Calcey went from a fledgling startup to a thriving company with nearly 200 talented people on its payroll.

  Prior to founding Calcey, Mangala built a career as a programmer and product manager in Silicon Valley during the days of the dot-com boom. He was part of the engineering teams of GolfWeb (acquired by CBS Sportsline), Bay Networks, and Nortel.

  Mangala is a mountain biker, snowboarder, photography enthusiast, and seed investor in startups. Mangala is also a trustee of the Karuna Trust and holds a B.Sc. in Computer Science from the California State University, Fresno.

  Sheran Gunasekera

  Director

  Currently the Founder and CTO of Madison Technologies, Sheran was previously the founding CTO of Gojek (now GoTo)—the revolutionary Indonesian super app and one of the region’s first unicorns. In a career spanning the geographic breadth of the GCC and East Asia, he has held senior technical positions for companies such as Zalora and worked with clients such as Etisalat, Shell, and Bank Danamon.

  A huge DevOps, automation, and cybersecurity nerd, some of the most memorable moments in Sheran’s career have been when he was chased by security guards while diving in a large Dubai bank’s dumpsters for confidential documents, reverse engineering UAE-state sanctioned malware for their Blackberry users, and teaching a bank in Abu Dhabi how their fixed deposits can be hacked to pay out 400% returns on the initial deposit.

  Sheran has also written and published two books on cybersecurity. Away from work, he can be found honing his photography skills, following Formula 1, and finding some interesting YouTube channels to watch such as bigstackD.
